Coach Kritz has recently moved his family to Auckland, New Zealand after spending a year in Perth, Australia where he began his PhD studies at Edith Cowan University under accomplished sports scientist Professor John Cronin. Now at Auckland University of Technology to continue is research with professor Cronin he intends to develop a "Movement Competency Assessment Battery (MCAB)" that can be used to determine movement literacy in developmental to elite athletes. Coach Kritz through his 13 year experience as a strength and conditioning professional working with thousands of high performance athletes believes that the detection of movement problems in athletes will reduce the incident of injury, increase athletic performance, and promote long-term athletic development.
In addition to his PhD work, Coach Kritz is one of three fulltime strength and conditioning specialists for the New Zealand Academy of Sport. He works specifically with the NZ Bike program, Men's Field Hockey and a variety of other High Performance athletes.
In addition Coach Kritz with Coach Frost recently developed a new strength and conditioning programming model term “The Athlete Periodization Model”. This novel and highly affective method will be further enhanced with the development of the new power and velocity training facility or Power Hub located at the Millennium Institute-NZAS North Island facility. Coach Kritz will oversee the development and use of the new Power Hub with professor John Cronin a world leader in strength and power research and some of NZ’s top physical conditioners. The “Power Hub” is a world-leading concept that will be used to create an athlete’s power profile, identifying their deficiencies in force production or velocity of sport specific movement. The “Power Hub” will also be used as a training facility utilizing velocity and force feedback during training to enhance sport specific performance.
Prior to the move to Auckland Coach Kritz was the Director of Athletic Performance at the highly successful University of California San Diego. At UC San Diego he was responsible for overseeing, developing and implementing the strength, power, speed, agility and conditioning programming for 600 student-athletes that made up 23 NCAA intercollegiate athletic teams.
Before UC San Diego, Coach Kritz spent time in Japan as a strength and conditioning coach for the Japanese Swimming Federation. Improving the strength and power capability of swimmers who represented Japan in the Sydney Olympics.
Coach Kritz has two masters’ degrees from the United States Sports Academy in Sports Management, and Sports Medicine. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. In addition, he is a certified Olympic Lifting Club Coach (USAWL) and a recognized physical conditioner for elite athletes by Sport and Exercise Science New Zealand.
With 22 years of competitive sport experience as an athlete competing in Swimming, Basketball, Cross Country, Wrestling, Track & Field, Rowing, Rugby, and Water Polo. Coach Kritz has a wealth of knowledge and understanding of sport specific training. He has a proven ability to effectively develop strength and conditioning programs for developmental to elite level athletes.
